Renew Your Mind (Part 2)

What Happens When You’re Born Again

When someone receives Jesus as the Lord of their life, a transformation takes place in their heart. With the help of the Holy Spirit, that person is born again.

John 3:3 says, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” What do we mean by “born again”?

When a person comes to Christ, they receive a new life in the Spirit. Their soul establishes a relationship with God. But even then, we can’t say that their mind is renewed.

We are still living inside our bodies. Some people live 10 or 20 years, others for 50 or even 90 years. All that time we are staying inside our body. We store up whatever we see, hear or touch like a computer stores things on a hard drive.

The Battle for Our Minds

Our five senses are like a door through which we can communicate with the world. We have a mind which preserves all the incidents happening in our surroundings. Our mind is connected to the world all the time.

To some degree, the one who currently rules this world is our enemy Satan. The main way he attacks us is through our thoughts.

In the book of Genesis, we can see how Satan interacted with Adam and Eve. Satan told Eve, “If you eat the fruit of this tree you will be like God.” A war broke out in the thoughts of our forefathers from that moment onwards. Their thoughts and attitudes changed. They fell for the seductive words of Satan.

Here we have to remember one thing: the nature of a fallen heart. Naturally, fallen man will not be obedient to God. Due to this, we tend to think against the will of God.

Even when we have been born again, we still possess our old mind. That’s why Romans 12:2 says, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Through our thoughts, Satan tries us. He prods us to commit sin. “Oh, it’s not a big issue,” we think; “everybody lies; everybody accepts bribes.” Satan induces such thoughts and convinces us to sin.

Satan put a thought in King David’s mind to count the Israelites. David followed this thought, which was against the will of God, and sinned.

Satan will also plant such thoughts in our minds.

Years ago, a girl studying in college wrote to me saying, “Please pray for me. I am scared that I will get cancer.” Who planted this thought of fear in her mind? God did not give us the spirit of fear.

Who owns the domain of fear? Satan. In order to change your life, find healing, achieve a good future for your children, progress in your workplace, have a good married life and fulfill all your desires, you must be transformed by renewing your mind.

Your mind should be filled with God’s Word. Reading and meditating on the Bible should be an integral part of your life; then your mind will be transformed.

Your mind is like a vessel filled with many things, namely your thoughts since childhood. To transform your mind, fill it with God’s Word so that all other things can be cleared away. God’s Word can help you to cleanse your life.
